Vista Verde Community Housing

Introducing Vista Verde – a uniquely located, beautifully designed senior affordable housing development fully approved by the City in August 2022, enhancing the entire Orinda community and our senior residents’ lives.

On behalf of Orinda Senior Housing Foundation (OSHF), we proudly present Vista Verde Community Housing (VVCH) project.  Nestled into the hillside at the top of Irwin Way, the 100% affordable senior development offers a total of fifty-two (52) senior apartments. The fifty-two units consist of thirty-three (33) one bedroom and nineteen (19) two-bedroom apartments ranging from 700 to 958 square feet.

The target tenants for this approved project range from very low to moderate-income seniors in their seventies on a fixed income.  The plan provides 13 units (25% of project) to moderate income, 30 units (59%) to low-income, and 8 units (16%) to very low income senior residents. Because affordable senior housing is in extremely short supply, this project assists the City of Orinda in meeting its obligations under the Housing Element of the General Plan.

The project boasts several on-site amenities including:  a Community Room, a Community Garden, Roof decks, a Crafts and Computer Room, 2 Workplace Offices, Bike Storage, a Maintenance Shop and a gated Parking Garage for residents.  The lower Outdoor Patio area, adjacent to the entry and ground level Lounge, creates an indoor/outdoor opportunity for residents and guests to relax and enjoy the beautiful setting. With comfortable seating and benches, friends and family can use this space as a waiting and visiting area. The Community Room creates a communal room for residents to visit with friends, watch movies, play games and sign up for classes including how to cook gourmet meals in the state-of-the-art kitchen provided.

The project is ideally located near two similar user demographics:  Orinda Senior Village completed in 1983 and Monteverde Senior Apartments built in 2014.  Vista Verde Community Housing location is northeast of Orinda Community Church, south of Mira Loma Road, north of Orinda Senior Village and west of the Watchwood Road neighborhood in Orindawoods.   While situated in a tranquil environment, VVCH is close to Orinda Community Center, offering many classes to seniors, Orinda Library, Orinda Community Park, the U.S. Post Office, two pharmacies, various retail shops and services, a clothing store, a bookstore and numerous cafes.  County Connection Bus lines travel routes along Orinda Way and the Orinda BART station is one-half mile from the site.  Currently there is a walking trail for neighboring residents to connect to downtown Orinda Village through the project site.  As requested by neighbors, the development team hopes to retain and enhance a path to downtown.

We look forward to our project servicing the ever-growing needs of the Orinda seniors in our community.

Groundbreaking will begin in 2023, with completion in fall of 2025.
